As the chairman of the Port Authority of Sri Lanka Priatt Bandu Vikram said, an artificial island of 48 hectares will be located in close proximity to Hambantota, one of the largest ports in the Indian Ocean. The engineer who developed the project of the Hambantota Port reported in an interview to the Business Times that the construction of the island became part of the second phase of the project to expand the nearby urban area, which is currently being implemented.
