Collection of the Picture Gallery

In the center of attention of the Magnitogorsk Art Gallery is the art of the 20-21 centuries. More than 7 thousand exhibits have been collected in the museum's funds: from the field of painting (about 600 exhibits), graphics (about 3, 5 thousand exhibits), sculptures (about 100 exhibits), arts and crafts (more than 1, 4 thousand exhibits) . Thematically, the collection is divided into several sections: "Creativity of the Urals artists", "The Art Chronicle of Magnitogorsk", "Pushkin's", "The Lay of Igor's Host", "Bazhovsky Tales", "Folk Art", "Artists of Magnitogorsk."

Among the set modern paintings are found and truly rare specimens dating back to the 19th century. In the graphics section you can see the works of Ivan Shishkin, Apollinaria Vasnetsov, a selection of works by masters of Russian engraving from the reserve fund of the Russian Museum. Western European graphics are represented by exhibits from Germany, France, Italy, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands and other countries.

The exhibition halls of the picture gallery are adorned with paintings of artists-representatives of the former union republics, handicrafts arrived here from the near abroad: Uzbek, Georgian, Ukrainian, Armenian , Lithuanian ceramics, tapestries, Baltic amber, Ukrainian textiles and much more.

All the most important Russian crafts are widely represented at the stands dedicated to applied art: Dymkovo, Filimonovo, Kargopol, Gzhel, Khokhloma, Zhostovo, Rostov, Palekh and others. The exhibition of art glass acquaints visitors with the traditions of glass-making in Dyatkovo, Gus-Khrustalny, Kiev, Lvov, factories of the Baltic and Byelorussia.
