Add a review about the Kazan Cathedral in Stavropol

Traveling in the south of Russia, approaching the Cossack villages, you are increasingly meeting crosses along the way. Spiritual life in these places, both in the countryside and in the city, always occupied an important position in the life of the people. Thus, in the first third of the 19th century, thanks to the efforts of local merchants, the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God appeared in Stavropol. The project was claimed by Nicholas I. The church was built, as it is in Russia, by the whole world. The merchant class provided finance and labor, local people helped anyone than they could.

The collection of funds and the building of a stone cathedral took about 10 years.

At the beginning of the 20th century the temple fell into a threshing-ground of socialism and was closed, and in the 43rd by the order of the authorities, the cathedral was completely blown up. Disappeared from the face of the earth architectural masterpiece, changing the appearance of the city of Stavropol.

In the early 30's. in order to help the starving Volga region, 30 poods of silver were transferred from the Stavropol Kazan Cathedral to the treasury.

The decision to restore the temple complex only matureed in 1991. To restore the former beauty, the restoration of the temple was carried out according to archival documents, and the exact location was prompted by archaeologists. First in 2004 a chapel appeared, and in 2008 the newly erected cathedral of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God glittered with golden domes. In 2011, services began, and the interior decoration of the church continues to this day.

The project of the Kazan Cathedral in Stavropol was approved by Nicholas I.

As many decades ago, construction is possible only through universal efforts - the fundraising for the restoration of the temple is organized in many public organizations of Stavropol.
