On Monday, the offices of the Federal Migration Service in Moscow, the Moscow region and St. Petersburg began accepting documents for the issuance of new biometric passports , including a microchip with fingerprints of the owner. On the launch of a new project, we wrote on June 10.
The innovation did not affect the appearance of the passport, nor the timing and cost of its manufacture. A special procedure, during which the fingerprints of both hands are taken, takes no more than ten minutes. In the case of the impossibility of scanning forefingers, fingerprints are taken from medium, ring fingers or thumbs. The obtained fingerprints are recorded on the microchip of the passport, after which they are destroyed from the computer.
So far, the production and issuance of passports are carried out in a pilot mode. The residents of the two capitals and Moscow suburbs still have a choice between a five-year old passport, a biometric passport for 10 years and a new biometric passport for 10 years with fingerprints.
