Izmailovo Island - is artificially formed an island with a rich historical past. Ring of water and around it - two ponds and the Serebryanka River, which were once connected. The remaining land in the middle was named Izmaylovskiy island by the name of the first owner of the village standing on this place - Izmail, the grandson of the vicar of the Golden Horde khan Batu Ivan Shai.
Here the king Alexei Mikhailovich 350 years ago grew melons, watermelons and grapes and arranged a menagerie, in which he kept lions, tigers, lynxes and leopards. Peter I found in an abandoned barn on the island of English small boat from which the construction of the Amusing Navy began, and Catherine II had falconry. Today on the island you can play tennis, football and volleyball, wander along the birch avenues along which Bunin liked to stroll and admire the monuments of architecture of the XVII century - the Pokrovsky Cathedral, the Mostovaya Tower, the gates of the Sovereign Court.
And the long white buildings fencing an island from the rest of the world - a former military almshouse, built two centuries later by Constantine Tone. Now the tower holds a branch of the Historical Museum, which stores the frames of the carriages and huge mittens red morocco embroidered with "With Love wear." Judging by the size, their owner had to have the palms with a small shovel. Who owns the giant gauntlets, is unknown.
