Roman Forum - once the central market, and now the square that occupies the center of the ancient part of the city. It was the focal point of the social and political life of Roman citizens. It is from here that the current meaning of the word "forum" originates.

It is worth noting that the Forum is not the most simple in terms of perception of the place. Many of the ruins here look so ruins that even the imagination fades helplessly. Therefore, be prepared that you will be able to enjoy fully the ancient Rome only the most knowledgeable or stubborn. Finally, it should be taken into account that in the summer the sun is extremely unappreciative here

History

A pagan shrine was first located around the forum. With the fall of the empire, it lost its social significance and was almost overgrown with weeds until Christians began to build their temples on it. Archaeological excavations began here in the 19th and 20th centuries, as a result of which the forum acquired modern cultural significance

Forum Today

Now the forum gathers around itself a lot of ancient architectural artifacts, such as the Sacred Road (Via Sacra), the Capitolium, the Temple Saturn, etc. You can go to it from the street Foley Imperiali or from the Capitol, passing through the Capitoline descent from the street Foro Romano. Another way to the forum is through the Temple of Accord, the Portico of the Blessing Gods, the Mamertine Prison, which allows one to get acquainted with these monuments of antiquity.

As a rule, only future historians and a few fans want to know more and more about this place. The rest are satisfied with a simple walk. For the first, you can recommend an audio guide, which is offered to tourists at the entrance for 4 EUR, or a guide (about 50 EUR per hour for individuals, with the group will be much cheaper).

Roman Forum is another unique attraction of Rome . Of course, all the first things go to the Colosseum . If you do not have time to stand in line at the Colosseum, then go to the Roman Forum . Here it is also very interesting and it is next to Coliseum and the Triumphal Frame . The entrance fee is paid, but inside it is very interesting . I note , what will be interesting to art lovers, if you are not interested in it, then you will perceive the great Roman Forum simply as a ruin in the middle of Rome . I was very interested, I even bought a small book about the forum . I am amazed by the large columns still preserved . @ Much has lost its original appearance, but to come into contact with history is a fascinating event! Earlier in the forum ceremonies and meetings were held, and now tourists from all over the world are simply strolling . It's a pity that this is no longer the place of all events, but just a place for excursions . You can buy souvenirs with the Coliseum, forum for memory . I have traditionally bought a beautiful magnet on the fridge

The history of ancient Rome always interested me, and so the trip to this city was for me a real event. I visited almost everything you can Coliseum, Pantheon, St. Peter's Cathedral, and just after the Colosseum I came to the Roman forum, because they are in the neighborhood.
If the story does not interest you, then visiting this place will not impress you much, you can also go to the ruins of Chersonesos, and at the same time spend less money. But for me visit one of the oldest places in the city ... Read the whole review

Roman Forum is one of the stunning attractions Italy. It is a large area. Once upon a time it was a market, later senators sat here and decided the fate of Rym. There are many different cafes and restaurants. Around the forum there is the Capitol temple, which you can climb for free and see all the greatness of the square. The entrance to the Roman Forum is paid and costs 15 euros. Here, after you entered, you can walk all day. The main thing is to take something with you to eat and drink ... Read the whole review

Roman Forum - one of the main attractions of the city September 03, 2013

Walking past the Roman Forum is rather difficult, because it is located in the historic center of the city, right next to the Colosseum, the arch of Constantine and the square of Venice. And it's very easy to get here - you can take the metro to the Coliseo station and 200 meters will already be Forums. Pedestrian excursions around the city also pass here. Now, of course, there is not much left on the forums from their original appearance, mostly ruins, among which the once-famous Temple of Saturn and the Capitol, at the best ... Read the full review
