Add a review about the Ethnographic Museum in Burgas

The Ethnographic Museum of Burgas is part of the regional museum complex along with three other: historical, archaeological and natural sciences. The last three museums may also attract someone, but for a tourist in Bulgaria the most interesting will, of course, be an examination of the ethnographic exposition. This collection is placed in the former house of Brakolov, a two-story mansion built in 1873. The whole exposition is divided into two main sections devoted to everyday life and everyday life of common people, as well as clothes of the 19th and 20th centuries

The first floor of the building is occupied by an exposition dedicated to weaving . It was the main female occupation at home until the end of the 19th century . From the exhibition you can learn about how the plant fibers and other raw materials for the future fabric were collected, prepared and processed .Then different types of yarn processing are demonstrated: weaving, half-weaving, primitive work by the shuttle and finally weaving on the horizontal machine . Also here you can find out how the weavers, special cords adorned the peasants' clothes, and how the weave belts that were intended for animals and used by only one group of Bulgarians - Strandji residents . It was the vertical machine for creating these belts that became the prototype of a full-fledged weaving machine .

The whole exposition is divided into two main sections dedicated to everyday life and everyday life of the common people, as well as clothes of the 19th and 20th centuries.

One can see the final product - fabrics of different characteristics and colors. And separately exhibited costumes, sewn from them. Since the region is inhabited by several different ethnic groups, the costumes here were adopted differently. Although, for example, female sarafans wore trinkets, Thracians, and Zagorians, but the ornaments on them were different and complex. With men, it was easier: black clothes suited everyone, and decorated it except that monophonic or blue lace.

A separate place in the national costume was occupied with ceremonial clothes. For celebrations such as weddings or ritual activities and rites on holidays, a special outfit, supplemented with decorations, was used; they too are in the exposition. Besides, clothes and accessories for children can be seen in the museum

Also, the interior of a typical 19th-century city house is recreated on the ground floor

In July and August regular summer master classes are held at the museum, they can be learned to make independently traditional garments and handicrafts: earthenware, knitwear, woven rugs, etc. Also regularly in the museum are the evenings of Bulgarian culture, in which women are singing and hand-woven in folk costumes.
